Wayne

At Somerset Care we are working closely with local job centres to help anybody looking for work to try care for the first time. Wayne attended one of our Academy courses and has now found a role he loves, but never expected. Just one of the reasons we offer #SoMuchMore

“No matter how your day has gone or what’s going on outside, you’ve got someone saying thank you and 52 other people to be positive and strong for giving you a massive smile. I really enjoyed it and interacting with the group. The Care Academy gave me the confidence to try care and made me understand that I had transferable skills from previous employment that I never would have thought of, I had butterflies on my first day but everyone was so welcoming, I would say to other people to give it a go. It’s a job but not a job, you go home feeling good.”

Wayne, Care Assistant at Moorhaven home at Somerset Care, completed the Somerset Care Academy in December and has recently progressed to being a Key Worker for three residents. Wayne was unemployed for 18 months previous to the academy. He wasn’t sure about care as a career to start with, but he found the academy to be brilliant as it allowed him to get a real taste of what it is like to work in care, it involved workshop learning that followed with a shadowing placement.

You could progress a career in adult social care, just like Wayne. You can develop your current skills and learn new ones. If you are thinking about looking for a career where #everydayisdifferent, why not #workincare with full-time and part-time roles you can find the right role for you.
