Join our Care Home Team in Exeter. Green Tree Court located in Exeter is a luxury, 68-bedroom care home which has achieved the Stirling Gold Standard for dementia design. The home provides a comfortable, safe, stylish environment, for those requiring expert dementia support and nursing care.

Purpose of the role

Health Care Assistants play a key role in supporting qualified professionals.

Depending on the individual role, a care assistant may assist therapists or specialists by setting up equipment and providing hands-on support or by working directly with residents in carrying out routine personal care duties.

Key responsibilities of the role

Clinical:

  • At the direction of the Registered Nurse / Nurse in Charge participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing and or Personal Care
  • To be aware of resident’s emotional, social and physical needs, reporting back to trained nurse / care manager responsible for their care.
  • Provide information to enable the effectiveness of care to be evaluated and records maintained.
  • Record in the relevant documentation the care that has been delivered contemporaneously.
  • Recognise and respond to appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Work collaboratively with registered nurses and other care or hospitality / domestic staff to ensure residents nutritional needs are met.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.

This list is not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake additional tasks from time to time.

You don’t need to have any qualifications, but you would need to have the relevant experience:

  • At least 3 months previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant.
  • Physical fitness.
  • Familiarity with the needs of disabled and or vulnerable individuals.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team, under pressure and to time deadlines and within a varied work pattern.
  • Ability to liaise with clients’ families and other significant persons.
  • Ability to read and understand care documentation, record shift events legibly and help clients read personal correspondence.
  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
  • Sense of humour and friendly nature.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages, race, gender or ethnic origin without distinction or prejudice.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to developing anti-discriminatory practice and equal opportunities in personal work practice.
