FAQ

  • What is social care?

Social care is about providing physical, emotional and social support to help people live their lives. For various reasons and at different stages in life, some people need support to develop and maintain their independence, dignity and control.

  • How do I apply for a role?

Somerset Care operates an online application process. Please visit our jobs section for a list of roles available or alternatively, please send your CV to recruitmentteam@somersetcare.co.uk or call us on 01823 448321.

  • How long will it take to process my application?

This will depend on obtaining full and correct information from you. The Recruitment Team aim to contact all applicants 48 hours after receipt of your application. Once you have submitted your application online, it is subject to screening. If your application is successful, you will be invited for an interview.

Following a successful interview, the Recruitment Team will complete several pre-employment checks including a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service check), reference checks and to ensure we have proof of Right to Work in the UK. If these checks are satisfactorily completed, you will then attend a welcome company induction day. The Recruitment Team will fully engage and communicate with you throughout the recruitment process and aim to get candidates started in post as soon as possible.

  • What do we look for in successful candidates joining our organisation?

We would like to hear from kind, caring and empathetic individuals who are passionate about making a difference to our customers lives. In return, we can develop and provide training to support you in a career in care.

  • What is the minimum age to work at Somerset Care?

It is possible to work in residential homes from the age of 16, in supervised posts. If you want to work with people in their own homes though, you have to be over 18 years of age. The regulatory body – Care Quality Commission – has developed national minimum standards which are used to regulate the provision of service in several areas of social care. These national minimum standards lay down requirements in relation to the employment and supervision of young people. Details of the national minimum standards can be found on the website for the Commission.

  • Do I need to have qualifications before I start?

No experience is necessary, as you will be given full training and support right from the outset. We can offer you so much more than a career; we offer the chance to gain qualifications whilst working, progression opportunities and many other fantastic benefits of working for a large care company. All we ask is that you are passionate about helping others.
